In doing this course, be very certain you never go past a word you do not fully understand. The only reason a person gives up a study or becomes confused or unable to learn is because he has gone past a word he did not understand.

The confusion or inability to understand or learn comes AFTER a word you did not know the meaning of. It might not only be the new and unusual words that you did not understand.

One of the most important facts in the whole subject of study is that you must never go past a word that you do not understand.

In every subject that you took up and then left incomplete, you will find that there were words that you read but you did not know what they meant.

So while doing this course be very, very certain you never go past a word you do not fully understand.

If what you are studying becomes confusing or you can’t seem to understand it, there will be a WORD just earlier that you have not understood.

Don’t go any further, but go back to BEFORE you got into trouble and find the word you did not fully understand. Wherever you see a word that is underlined, you can click on it and it will immediately give you the meaning of that word.

As you go through the course, you can also click on the menu at the top of each course page where it says “Glossary” (which is a list of words and what they mean) and it will take you to a list of words used in the course and give you the meaning of each.

If you cannot find the word you are looking for listed in the glossary, get a simple dictionary and look up its meaning there.

Welcome to the Integrity and Honesty Online Course

It can be said that integrity is knowing and doing what you know to be true and right, despite anything to the contrary. What causes you to lose your integrity and, with it, your self-respect? How can it be regained?

And what causes people to withdraw from life? Leave a good job they used to enjoy? Or give up on the activities that used to mean so much to them? People have been known to break up a marriage and depart for no logical reason. Until now, there has been no escape from such a serious problem.

A person can feel bad about what they have done in the past and not seem to be able to get any relief. But regret about the past does not need to pull you away from involvement in the present.

L. Ron Hubbard has discovered what actually causes people to withdraw from marriage, groups, a person’s career and even their dreams for a happy future.

Scientology contains precise procedures and tools to enable a person to rid himself of the effects of past misdeeds. With these tools, a person can help himself and those around him feel part of a group again, restore his integrity and self-respect and enable him to regain or strengthen the trust and friendship of others.

This course will provide you with a basic understanding of the problems relating to integrity and honesty and some vital tools you can use to help yourself or others lead a happier life.

Good and Evil

Good means doing things that are helpful, constructive, making things better, making people happier, etc. Evil means doing things that are harmful or causing great pain, upset, misery, etc. It is something that is bad or wrong.

Man is basically good. He tries to do things that will help others and improve things. He does not want to harm himself or others. When a person does harm others, he will destroy himself to save the people or things he has harmed.

But what is meant by saying something is “good” or “evil,” “right” or “wrong”? The answer has to do with survival. Survival means being able to stay alive or carry on living or existing. Further, it means to live as long as you can and as well as you can.

Any action that helps survival is considered to be good. The best actions are those that contribute not only to a person himself, but to his family, his group, physical objects, Mankind or life.

Additionally, to be good, the construction (help or assistance for improvement) the action brings about must be greater than the destruction it causes. For example, a new cure for a disease may be an acceptable cure if it saves a hundred lives yet kills one.

Good is also being more right than you are wrong. Good is being more successful than you are unsuccessful, in a way that assists or improves other people and things.

Evil is the opposite of good. When an act (something a person does) is more destructive than constructive, it is evil. When an act assists succumbing (failing or dying) more than it assists survival, it is an evil act. Anything is evil that brings about the destruction of people, groups or reduces the future of the human race.

Overall, good conduct is survival. Evil conduct is non-survival.

An act or conclusion (idea or decision one makes) is right if it helps the survival of the person, family, group, Mankind or life making the conclusion.

An act or conclusion is wrong to the degree that it is non-survival to the person, family, group, Mankind or life. The most wrong a person can be is dead.

The person or group that is, on average, more right than wrong should survive. A person or group that is, on average, more wrong than right will succumb.

Dishonest conduct is non-survival. When you say you will do something and you do it, you are then trusted and that is survival—but only so long as you do what you say you would. To the weak, the cowardly (people who act weakly) and the irrational (senseless or unreasonable people), dishonesty, the harming of others and the destruction of their hopes can seem to be the only way of living life.

People do dishonest or destructive things because of fear. Lies are told because one is afraid of what will happen if one tells the truth. So the liar is always a coward and the coward always a liar.

It probably seems quite normal and perfectly all right to some people that they live in a society full of drugs, criminals, war and insanity. This is not normal and it is not necessary. It is possible for all people to lead happy, successful lives. It starts by really understanding what makes something good and evil, right or wrong.
